Ellgia Recycling acquire Newmarket based AJ Thompson Paper Recycling

Ellgia Recycling are delighted to announce the acquisition of AJ Thompson Paper Recycling based in Newmarket, Suffolk. Negiotiations started back in February when Anthony (Tony) Thompson had indicated his intention to retire from the business.

Sadly in July this year, founder Anthony passed away suddenly which obviously had a major impact on the business. Fortunately there were family members in the company who were able to continue running the business ensuring the same high service standards. After some considerable deliberation they decided to continue negotiations and sell to Ellgia Recycling.

The company was established in 1967 by Anthony Thompson and over the last 45 years the business grew into one of East Anglia`s largest recycling companies, which currently handles around 700 tonnes of waste paper, plastic and cardboard per week across Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex and the East of England.

Steve Crook, Managing Director of Ellgia Recycling commented “The acquisition of AJ Thompson is a strategic fit for our business and brings a huge amount of experience and history. The acquisition process was a very delicate matter as I am sure you will appreciate. The staff has done a fantastic job in some very difficult circumstances and should be very proud of their achievements. I look forward to working with them.

This now provides Ellgia Recycling with increased capacity and enhanced service options which can benefit all our customers new and old. We are a genuine alterative to the major companies by offering the full range of waste and recycling services, whilst still having the more personable feel an independent company can bring.

This is a very exciting time at present and I would like to welcome all staff, customers and suppliers to Ellgia Recycling.”

Cliff Sadler of AJ Thompson commented “Ellgia Recycling have impressed me with their vision for the future which is based on providing a first class service to our customers. They have the ability to offer additional service solutions which are backed up with the latest technology. I believe this will provide fantastic opportunities and an exciting future for our business and customers. It was important to me to make sure the successful bidder worked with the same customer service ethos which underpinned AJ Thompson over the years. I feel we have that with Ellgia Recycling. We would like to thank both our customers and staff, we are sure they will be in safe hands with Ellgia Recycling.”

Ellgia Recycling has seen considerable growth over the last twelve months and is now the largest independent waste management company in the area.
