Ellgia is delighted to have secured the contract for the delivery of RDF to FM1. RDF material is pre-processed at the Ellgia Scunthorpe Depot and will be used by FM1 to generate electricity. This provides a local outlet for RDF which supports Ellgia’s cradle to grave philosophy for managing waste.
Ellgia has made a significant investment into the Scunthorpe site, acting as its main processing hub for the Ellgia Group, providing waste processes which extract valuable recycling commodities. This is achieved through numerous mechanical treatment processes that eventually turn the remaining residual waste into useable waste derived fuel.
This offtake partnership allows Ellgia to further enhance its zero waste to landfill credentials from its major waste hub in Scunthorpe, demonstrating the commitment to moving waste up the Hierarchy. This partnership is part of Ellgia’s strategy in response to ever growing pressures on the waste and recycling industry, to provide long-term environmental and sustainable waste destinations.
Conclusion
FM1 operates a £300 million multifuel plant on land owned by SSE at Ferrybridge Power Station near Knottingley in West Yorkshire. The multifuel power station produces low carbon electricity by burning waste derived fuel from various sources of processed municipal solid waste and commercial and industrial waste. FM1 has an installed electrical export capacity of 68MW enough to power around 160,000 homes. The plant takes fuels from across Yorkshire and the wider region.
